Usk - Better than ever.

In our last newsletter we announced the departure of our Usk Salon Manager – Joff. Joff leaving has understandably been a great loss for the Usk Salon, but we have worked incredibly hard to put our all into Usk and believe the salon is better than ever in terms of strength and creative direction.

We have had some of our best staff working there in recent week’s and will continue to do so - Our salon director Dave now works Tuesdays & Fridays and our Head Educator Sarah is working Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays.

We’re really pleased that Joff’s departure has had nothing but a positive effect on the professional environment at Usk and the staff there continue to provide an excellent service to all of our clients and a seamless continuity to Joff’s existing clients.

Star Client!

We had a celeb in the midst this week, which is always exciting stuff! We were able to give Natalie Cassidy (who most of you will know as Sonia from Eastenders!) a shampoo & conditioner, and she was over the moon! She is working on a new fitness DVD and was in the area shooting promotional work - and she chose Burlesque for all her hair-related needs! We were thrilled to help out and she was so happy in-fact, she tweeted the news to her quarter of a million followers! We wish her the very best with all her upcoming projects!

We would like to send out huge congratulations to both Helen Jenkins and Rosie Pinch who have recently progressed to graduate stylists and are going from strength to strength. They have excelled in the thorough Burlesque training system and have both emerged as incredibly competent hairdressers and are keen to show off their expertise. Snap up their skills at our salons now!

A huge thank you to Joff!

As many of you may already know, Joff - our manager at Usk is sadly leaving us to enter a whole new Career path in education as a training manager. Joff has been a huge asset to Burlesque in Usk and has played an undeniable part in both the growth and in creating a wonderful culture in the salon. Joff started with Burlesque around 9 years ago, his natural flair for hairdressing was apparent immediately and he swiftly progressed into a more senior position in the organisation. He whole-heartedly took on the role of manger at Usk and played a fundamental part in creating a friendly, professional culture there.

He will be missed deeply by everyone at Burlesque and we’re sure many of you will feel the same way. The whole team would like to extend a massive thank you for his unrivaled professionalism over the last 6 years.

Joff leaves behind a very strong, creative team who can offer exclusive continuity to Joff's clients through their expertise and vast professionalism.

We want to wish him all the best in his new career and for all his future endeavors. We will miss you Joff!

WE WANT YOU! - Payday TV Show in Newport Needs Stars!

Do your blow your payday packet on looking good? A new TV show pilot is looking for stories in Newport! A show called PAYDAY popped into the Salon and asked if we could ask our customers whether they would like to feature on the show.

Here is synopsis of show and how to apply if you are interest:

We all play the waiting game until payday... maybe so we can pamper ourselves until we feel amazing, maybe so we can paint the town red in a great outfit or maybe just so we can give in to whatever indulgence takes our fancy! The rest of the month will take care of itself...

From Monday 10th June we want to talk to those of you who seriously celebrate when payday rolls around – who simply have to get their beauty treatments topped up or can’t wait to jump on the train and hit the club – people who live in the moment before they think about living with the consequences!

The Best Hair Blogs

When one of us is having an off day and we need a bit of a pick-me-up, we always find that hair blogs can motivate, inspire, and generally give us a good old fashioned mojo boost. So today we've rounded up a few of our favourite hair blogs on the web in case you're in need of a bit of mojo yourself!

Hair Romance
Hair romance is the creation of Christina who hated her hair until one perfect haircut helped her fall in love. Now she chronicles the ongoing romance between her and her beautiful blonde locks online. Last year, she set herself the 30 Braids in 30 Days challenge which had us checking back every day to see her beautiful creations!

Lisa Freemont Street
Ashley is a natural beauty who decided to start sharing her retro and rockabilly hairstyles with the world on her YouTube channel, Lisa Freemont Street. If you've got a soft spot for polka dots and victory rolls, make sure you check out Ashley's blog and video tutorials.

The Small Things
The Small Things is a blog dedicated to everything beauty written by the lovely Kate. She's a hair stylist herself so she knows a thing or two about good hair! One of the highlights of her blog is her hair tutorials page where you can see every in depth hair tutorial she's ever created! You can also watch her videos on YouTube.

Reagan is a stylist from New York. Her blog, Hairdresser on Fire, is a fun combination of all the latest hair news and a fun look inside her life. Watch out for her amazing 'Answers' posts where she offers her very insightful professional advice on a range of hair related questions from her readers.

ISA Salon Cymru

Last weekend, four of our up and coming stylists competed in Salon Cymru 2013, an annual event organised and hosted by the training provider ISA. The big event was held Cardiff's Swalec Stadium where some of the country's most talented trainees gathered to mingle and compete. Friendly competition of course!

Byron, Cally, Rosie and Taylor all competed in the Avant Garde category to create some truly stand out styles. Although none of our team took home a trophy, the day is always a great learning experience and a chance for our trainees to catch up with industry news and chat to their peers about all things hair!

May 2013: Graduate Offer

Joff is KMS California's Regional Retail Ambassador

The manager of our Usk salon, Joff, who has been with the business for 10 years and has played a vital part in growning the Burlesque brand in Monmouthshire has just been snapped up by KMS California as their Retail Ambassador for Wales and the West region of the UK! But don't worry, he'll be sticking with us as both creative director and manager of the Usk salon.

Joff has just returned from the KMS Acadamy in Mayfair London where he was undergoing training as an Ambassador. It's a valuable role for both Joff and the business as he can communicate all his new found wealth of knowledge regarding the KMS brand to the salon team and you guys, our clients.
